Vietnam: A Journey from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi

Our Vietnam adventure began in Ho Chi Minh City, where we dove headfirst into the hustle and bustle of the Central Business District. The streets were alive with an endless sea of scooters, and the constant beeping of horns created a symphony of city sounds. Each morning, the local parks transformed into hubs of activity as residents gathered to exercise, practice tai chi, and engage in spirited games of da cau (foot badminton). It was a fascinating display of community life that continued late into the night.

During our time in Ho Chi Minh, we took a tour of the Cu Chi tunnels, which gave us an incredible glimpse into the country’s war history. We also explored the city on foot, visiting architectural gems like the Catholic Cathedral of Notre Dame and the iconic 19th-century Post Office, still in operation today. Each corner of the city seemed to offer a unique blend of history and modernity.

One of the highlights of our trip was a day spent exploring the Mekong Delta. We hopped aboard a traditional boat and drifted along the river, getting up close to the local communities that rely on it for their daily lives. We toured orchard farms, honey farms, and even a chocolate factory, before enjoying a delicious lunch at a local eatery. The warmth and hospitality of the people here made the experience even more unforgettable.

After Ho Chi Minh, we hopped on a quick flight to Da Nang, which brought us from the lively streets to the peaceful, picturesque town of Hoi An. This UNESCO World Heritage site was a true highlight of our journey, known for its colorful streets, historic architecture, and mouthwatering food. The local dishes—Cao Lau and Banh Mi—are absolute must-tries. We found ourselves constantly indulging in the flavors of this charming town, and the lantern-lit streets only added to the magical atmosphere. I can't wait to return to Hoi An in the near future to soak it all in again.

Our Vietnam trip wrapped up in Hanoi, a modern city with a fascinating blend of old and new. It was intriguing to explore streets that were each dedicated to a specific trade—silver, silk, medicine—you name it. One of the most unforgettable experiences was a full-day cruise to Ha Long Bay. The bay’s towering limestone pillars rising out of emerald waters were nothing short of breathtaking. It was the perfect way to end our Vietnam journey—leaving us with memories to last a lifetime.
